What activities and events is the Evesham Volunteer Centre organising?

The Evesham Volunteer Centre is celebrating 25 years of working in the community and has been holding various events throughout the year. These events involve volunteer centre volunteers and volunteers in general who organise groups and activities throughout the Vale.

 • Viva the Villages Event

September 17th, Evesham Town Hall, 6.30-9.30pm.
The event showcased the voluntary and community group activity within the villages of the Evesham area. All were welcome to come and view exhibits and join in to see what is going on in the area. Groups also gave examples of their activities.

  • Free Eye Test at Home

This may be available for people who have difficulty getting out and about - or carers who have dependant relatives.
The test is carried out by a fully trained optometrist, using the latest portable diagnostic equipment to check for glaucoma, cataracts and general optical health.

  • Broadway Cancer Support Group – at the Signpost premises 

This group meets on the first Thursday of each month from 3.00 to 4.00 pm.

Every Tuesday at 10.00 am, outside Raphael’s Café, Boat Lane, Evesham – walking around Evesham and it’s riverside paths. This is a sociable and healthy accompanied walk.

  • The Network (Worcestershire Electrical Re-Use Centre)

  • Evesham Bag Busters

to find out more about Bag Busters and their campaign to reduce the use of plastic bags and be more efficient with our use of resources.

WANTED:  need for two committee members.  The Bag Buster campaign has taken off so well that two more members are needed.  In particular, there is a need for someone to take on the role of Business Recruitment Coordinator, whose main job will be to sign on new businesses to the campaign.

  • Age Concern (Pershore and Evesham District) - Handyperson and Gardening Scheme. 

If you are an older person having difficulties with do-it-yourself jobs or gardening Age Concern may be able to help.  Trained staff and volunteers will come out for an initial visit to make an estimate of the costs involved and charge a reasonable price for work and materials used.

  • Onside Independent Advocacy

Thursdays, 1-4pm at the Evesham Contact Centre (the Old Police Station) Onside Independent Advocacy hold outreach sessions for those requiring advice and advocacy support.  Appointments can be made either with Onside Advocacy or the Contact Centre telephone numbers below.  Sessions take place every Thursday except the third Thursday of the month.

  • Signpost of Broadway

An Alzheimer and Dementia Worker are present at Signpost on Tuesday mornings for any patient or carer to drop in or make an appointment.

  • Active Ageing Exercise Club

Weekly classes start Mondays 6th August 10.30 to 12.30 at Town Hall, Market Square, Evesham, cost £1.50.

Extend exercise is a gentle form of exercise and movement to music.  It is chair based for older people,  or suitable for wheelchair users and those of limited mobility.

  • AGE Concern

Did you know Age Concern have a Wellcheck Officer for Evesham and surrounding parishes?

The officer is responsible for promoting, developing and maintaining an information and Wellcheck Service for older people and their families.
Wellcheck is open to anyone over 55 and who does not qualify for Social Services assistance.
