Volunteers make a vital contribution to community life, giving their time, energy and skills each week in many different ways and with many different organisations. From visiting an elderly or isolated person for a chat, becoming a volunteer driver for the community car scheme, taking someone shopping, delivering library books to the housebound, helping at the town’s museum, or working on local conservation projects ….. there’s something for everyone.
Who Volunteers?
Anyone can volunteer. Whatever your age, background, status, ethnicity, previous experience or needs, there will be something to suit you amongst the many volunteering opportunities in and around Evesham.
How much time?
The amount of time you give to volunteering is up to you. Some organisations may need people who can offer several hours a week, others may require a longer commitment. Most volunteers give a morning or afternoon a week while others may welcome a less frequent commitment. Every little helps.
Will you Need to Train?
Depending upon the choice you make some volunteering roles may require training. Many roles only require an induction to familiarise you with the organisation and what you will be doing, or you can learn as you go along. Others might require more detailed training and offer the opportunity of a formal course.
What can you get out of it?
• Meeting people and making new friends • The chance to use existing skills and learn new ones • Gain experience in a new environment • Gain confidence and a sense of achievement • Develop life skills • Improve job prospects • The opportunity to get involved, help others and make a difference
